New instruments, materials and toolsThe Editor invites manufacturers of instruments and light machine tools to keep her informed of their new or improved products.The Institute of Physics and The Physical Society assumes no responsibility for the state-mentS'given below; information for these has been taken from literature supplied.Digital voltmeter LM 1010.Solartron Laboratory Instru-This is a 5 digit voltmeter which measures d.c.voltages from 20pv to 1*5999kv, with polarity discrimination, and provides simultaneous print-out signals within 20 msec.Voltages are measured with an accuracy to +0.05% of reading or i l bit, whichever is the greater.On the most sensitive of the 5 ranges the 1 bit resolution is 20 pv.Two additional ranges have scaling suitable for iron-constantan and &omel-Alumel thermocouple inputs to give direct temperature readings.Input impedance is greater than 1OOO megohms on the two most sensitive ranges and the thermocouple ranges, and greater than 10 megohms on other ranges.The voltmeter can be switched for manual and auto operation.In the manual mode a single input sample is taken by pressing a panel button.On auto the input is sampled at mains frequency, the reference resistors being witched by transistors.A Weston standard cell is fitted for calibration purposes.The 5 figure digital display is by optical projection with red or black backgrounds to indicate positive or negative inputs respectively.Decimal outputs at -12 v dc. are extended to a 75 way rear-mounted socket for driving an in-line printer or remote digital display.Overall dimensions are 10 in.x 18 in.x 16 in.and weight 50 lb.
