Arithmetic coding with limited past history
M. Ghanbari · Electronics Letters · 1991
A locally adaptive model for arithmetic coding is introduced. It uses a limited number of past symbols to model the cumulative density function of the arithmetic coder. Application of this method as a variable length code, for video compressors, outperforms the first-order entropy of the compressor.
