Agreement management in conceptualization of new terms in dictionaries

Ramón Álvarez Tapia, Patricia Martín-Rodilla, Miguel Sánchez-Marcos · 2014

The daily emergence of new terms to denote existing concepts or new realities in daily life is common in our days. Thus, the use of these new terms in daily life, media, social network or oral communications involves the necessity of managing the agreement process of conceptualizing and correct defining of these new terms, in order to include them in dictionaries, guidelines or thesaurus. Traditionally, these processes were performed in large meetings and without technological support. In this context, the existing collaborative software environments can help in the management of the necessary agreements between professionals of different fields (linguistics, editors, philosophers, consultants...). In this paper we propose a semantic-based algorithm to manage the collaborative conceptualization of new terms, supporting identification, collaborative edition, terminology agreement and visualization of interaction between other related terms, managing level importance between them. In addition, we propose a possible implementation of the algorithm in a web solution, exposing a real case study: a dictionary to collect new terms related to new ways of reading. The algorithm and their implementation following a collaborative web platform allow the professionals to reach a conceptualization agreement about new emerging terms, regardless of the domain involved.
