An initial observational study of the effects of personality type on software engineering teams
John Karn · 2004
Two student teams have been observed throughout projects to create software systems for external clients, to study how individual personality types interact during the activities of developing software. Examples of the observed interactions are described, both constructive and disruptive, and it is shown that many of these can be explained by features of the individual personalities as measured by the Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBT1). Hence, certain combinations of personality type have been identified that could be expected to be disruptive to the working of a software development team.
