An adaptive multiresolution mass-spring model
Marcos García, Luis Pastor, Ángel Rodríguez · 2005
This work presents a technique for achieving multiresolution representations of deformable objects used in virtual reality applications. The proposed model may define different levels of detail inside the objects in order to obtain a plausible sensorial feedback answer. The technique here described uses a subdivision scheme based on wavelet transforms and a dynamic model based in a mass-spring representation. The dynamic model allows the simulation of the whole volume behaviour incorporating a skeleton that reduces the number of nodes managed by other existing representations and improves its stability too. The paper presents an analysis of the performance achieved with the proposed model together with some examples used in the tests. The results show that the dynamic behaviour of the model is stable and coherent at different resolution levels.
