Thinking music with precision, depth, and passion

Guerino B. Mazzola · Journal of Mathematics and Music · 2012

This text contains Mazzola's answers to the four questions proposed by Anja Volk and Aline Honingh about benefits of mathematical approaches to the field of music research, pitfalls that occurred within computational and/or mathematical approaches to music research, challenges we are facing now within computational and/or mathematical approaches to music, and how can we strengthen the connections between the three fields of mathematical, computational, and musicological approaches to music. My answers are given from the point of view of mathematical music theory and corresponding computer programs for analysis, composition, and performance.
