Service-based architectures for the network-centric battlefield

Pat Vessels · Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE · 2002

Information Technologies are transforming the modern battlefield. Advances in networking and communications technologies have made it possible to communicate with virtually anyone, anywhere, at any time. As the network foundation grows, so does the need for a set of technologies to enable interoperability amongst elements on this network. Service-based architectures are the next evolutionary step in system and software architectures and are particularly applicable to the challenges faced in Network Centric Warfare. This paper explores how service-based technologies apply to the various levels of architecture within a Network-Centric battlefield.
