“On-Line” Computing in Speech Research

Peter B. Denes · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1965

Computer-simulated models offer great advantages to speech research. However, normal computer operation involves delays in obtaining results whilst effective study of certain speech models requires that the experimenter immediately observe the effects of varying his model. A computer installation for speech analysis and synthesis that does provide such direct man—computer interaction is described and experience gained so far is discussed.
