Watching TV or surfing the internet anytime and anywhere is driving the needs for communication systems with increased portability and higher data rates. Moreover, new sensor network applications will demand ultralow-power and more flexible communication protocols. Solutions for this nomadic life style and ubiquitous intelligence will be enabled to a large extent by innovations in integrated circuits and systems These systems will have to be highly integrated, energy efficient and very low-cost. They will also have to provide higher bandwidth and be adaptive to make efficient use of the spectrum resource.
