Construction of a matter-light interferometer via the Zeno effect

We show that the control of the internal electronic state of a trapped ion in a cavity allows the construction of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer in which the interfering modes are a cavity field and the vibrational motion of the ion. The proper control of the internal state of the ion is achieved via the Zeno effect.
