Historically, the driving force behind the adoption of any technology has been its potential for transforming the way we live and work. Nowhere has that been more evident than in the progress of computer echnology, and particularly in IBM's contributions through the years. A selection of papers representing those contributions is presented in this retrospective issue, providing examples of turning points documented by the IBM Systems Journal since 1962.
