This article presents a survey of the existing packages of computer programs that are being used for the statistical analysis of data The bamc capabilities of a general-purpose package are listed and discussed briefly The various types of statistical packages are classified into five general categories, and a description of each category is given Brief abstracts and summary descriptions of 37 packages are presented, as well as a list of 18 additional packages and 17 r e l a t e d references.
