The field of active learning and optimal query construction in Neural Network training is tightly connected with the design of experiments and its rich theory. Thus there is a large number of active learning strategies and query criteria which have a sound theoretical foundation. This comparative study considers the regression problem of approximating a nonlinear noisy function with relatively few inputs.
