Bandwidth compression using hybrid-adaptive coding with variable bit-rate

MOHAMED E. M. NASR · International Journal of Electronics · 1989

In this paper, a new algorithm used in the hybrid DPCM (HDPCM) scheme is presented. This scheme employs several different bit rates, and by using a buffer one can fix its transmission rate. This results in a reduction in the channel bit rate, and hence achieves bandwidth compression without sacrificing the quality of transmitted data reproduction. The performance of HDPCM with variable bit-rate (VRHDPCM) has been evaluated considering a feedforward as well as a feedback estimation. Detailed algorithm and computer simulation studies for the proposed system under various conditions are presented. In addition, it is shown that the VRHDPCM is superior in performance compared to the other types schemes.
