Khachian's algorithm fact and fantasy

Just a year ago in 1979 L. G. Khachian, a Russian, published an algorithm for solving linear programming problems. Khachian's algorithm has theoretical advantages over the algorithm published by G. B. Dantzig in 1947 which is known as the simplex method.
