Remarks on the exchange approximation in covalent semiconductors

The matrix elements of the exact and approximate exchange operator are investigated in the frame of the pseudo-potential model. It is found that the Slater local potential and the simple modifications of it give different matrix elements in some states as the exact exchange operator.
