Design of recursive digital filters with prescribed amplitude and delay characteristics

A closed form solution has been developed to approximate the passband characteristics of the ideal digital filter. The transfer function which has been obtained to characterize the approximate solution is non-minimum phase with image-mirror polynomial in the numerator. The denominator and the numerator of the function are interrelated via the linear phase polynomials A n(z) and B n(z). The resulting function can be used for designing lowpass, high-pass, and bandpass recursive digital filters to meet prescribed amplitude and phase or delay specifications. Two examples are presented to demonstrate typical responses.
