The use of sub differentials for studying generalized convex functions

Nicolas Hadjisavvas · Journal of Statistics and Management Systems · 2002

We review recent results on various characterizations of generalized convexity of functions through the properties of their subdifferentials. In order to achieve generality we use abstract subdifferentials, which include a wide range of subdifferentials appearing in the literature. Some new results and unpublished proofs are presented. The paper also discusses the related notìons of generalized monotonicity and some recently discovered results which show how generalìzed monotonicity (and especially proper quasimonotonicity) appears to be the most natural concept to be used in the study of variational inequality problems.
