Inter-Speaker versus Intra-Speaker Variability of Glottal Pulse Shapes

T. H. Curtis · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1974

Glottal volume velocity waveforms have been obtained by passing segments of voiced speech through an all-zero filter representing the inverse of the vocal tract for that segment. The poles of the vocal tract were obtained by finding the roots of the linear prediction coefficient polynomial and selecting out the formants. Selected glottal pulses for a given speaker were time normalized and averaged over an utterance, and compared to similarly averaged glottal pulses for a different speaker. The purpose of the work is to explore the feasibility of using glottal pulse shapes for a speaker classification system.
