CELLULAR AUTOMATA: A MODEL FOR THE FORMATION OF COLOUR PATTERNS IN MOLLUSCS

The simple control system of cellular automata makes them very good analogues for biological mechanisms, in particular some of the colour patterns found on the shells of certain molluscs. There is scope for both experimental and observational work to test the usefulness of such an analogue.
