Performance measurement in selfish overlay network by fuzzy logic deployment of overlay nodes

Overlay network is built on top of one or more existing networks to enhance the performance of the network. Nodes in the overlay network overcome path outages during link failure within short duration to avoid congestion, delay and data loss. However theoretically if overlay nodes are substituted for every other node in the underlay network, it may leads to oversized memory and also it complicates the performance of the network. Hence optimized number of overlay nodes must be deployed which in turn can improve the network performance. Conventional algorithms use random deployment of overlay nodes which results in redundant and unnecessary placement of overlay nodes eve n in places where there is no link failure. In this paper, intelligent deployment of overlay nodes is performed and the performance metric delay, packet loss, bandwidth required with respect to outgoing data rate are calculated for three routing schemes namely source, optimal and compliant routing with five different queuing models.
