65.1: Invited Paper: Digital HDTV Expands with Plasma Displays

Abstract HDTV has been researched and developed since 1964 as the main next‐generation television system. HDTV requires high definition, high quality and large flat panel displays. Digital HDTV and FPD‐TVs are now creating an enormous new market. This paper describes the basic requirements for HDTV display, the performance of PDPs, and the configuration of signal processing and driving of PDP‐TVs. The direction of development for further improvement on image quality is also outlined.
