Improving software quality by static program analysis

This paper presents the results and conclusions obtained during a process improvement project of ABB Energy Information Systems, Germany. This project was executed in the context of ABB Energy Information Systems software process improvement activities. It was launched in order to collect experience in the usage of systematic static program analysis. We first give a brief overview on software development at ABB Energy Information Systems. Then we list the objectives of the project. After having given a short overview on the technique of static program analysis, we present in the main part of the paper our experience and conclusions. We do this by formulating and discussing nine major theses. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons Ltd
