Solving a set of simultaneous equations: the singular value problem

The singular value problem, in which it is required to solve a set of simultaneous linear equations, when there are more variables than equations, is considered, and a simple geometric interpretation described. This geometric interpretation complements the more abstract matrix algebra approach.
