Perspectives on Penetration Testing — Black Box vs. White Box

Ask a group of security professionals what the best approach to penetration testing is, stand back and wait for the bell. In the red corner are the black box testers. They believe that testing should be carried out with no privileged knowledge of the target. And in the blue corner are the white box testers, who perform testing with inside knowledge of the target. This fight is very likely to rage for some time yet.
