Characterization of room coloration by moments of room spectral response

T. H. Curtis · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1975

Coloration is the perceived effect of changes in the short-time spectrum of speech produced by its transmission in a room, The relationship between moments of the room spectral response and a subjective evaluation of the coloration in speech has been studied. Initial results indicate that the average value of the second moment of the room response correlates with coloration. This method shows promise as a way of characterizing the acoustic quality of rooms for hands-free telephony.
