Pyramid nets for computer vision

Michael C. Stinson · Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE · 1991

Neural networks are applied to the computer vision recognition problem using a hierarchical approach. The object is categorized and then decomposed using a pyramid structure that proceeds from category to component level in successive steps. The method allows an improved recognition procedure by utilizing the global recognition capabilities of neural networks for separate visual segments. The pyramid structure creates a top down approach for the recognition process.
