Cellular Logic Architectures

Kendall Preston · Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE · 1984

This paper reviews the geneology of cellular logic computers starting with the Cell-scan system and extending through an interesting diversity of architectures to more recent machines such as the pipelined Cytocomputer, PICAP (Picture Array Processor), DIP-1 (Delft Image Processor), and the Coulter Electronics diff3. These machines have advanced in speed from an equivalent of 100,000 instructions per second in 1961 to one billion instructions per second at the present time.
