On embedding a lattice in its power lattice
Victor J. Rayward-Smith · International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology · 1982
Let L be any lattice and let 2L denote its power lattice. Two continuous functions, ext and res, are described such that ext ε(L?L)?(2 L ?2 L ) and res ε(2 L ?2 L )?(L?L). Providing L is continuous, resoext is the identity function on L ? L . Although these results are not essentially new, it is hoped that this presentation will prove more understandable than those found in advanced texts on lattice theory. This is particularly important to the computer scientist who may lack a very formal mathematical training but to whom lattice theory is of particular importance.
