Cognitive engine for critical communications cognitive radio

Tore Ulversøy · 2012

Beneficial properties for a cognitive engine for a complex and unpredictable wireless environment, that e.g. include malicious activity like spoofing and jamming, are outlined. These desired properties are compared with the features of candidate advanced general cognitive architecture frameworks. A prototype cognitive engine made using one of these frameworks, CLARION, is tested towards a simulated radio environment. The prototype is seen to learn how to behave in a non-jammed and a jammed environment. It is concluded that the general cognitive architectures are candidates as basis for implementation of cognitive engines for cognitive radio. They also may serve as benchmarks for leaner, radio-domain-tailored cognitive engines.
