Efficient Access Control in a Hierarchy for Hardware-limited Users

Kuo‐Ching Liu, Hui‐Feng Huang · Journal of Convergence Information Technology · 2010

Access control in a hierarchy plays an important role for multi-user communication environments. Owing to the rapid progress of wireless networks, it is necessary to construct a low-computation dynamic access control scheme for hardware-limited users to obtain secure information. Therefore, we propose an efficient cryptographic key assignment scheme in which the cryptographic key of each user is calculated only through the exclusive-or operation and modular multiplication computations. The key generation and key derivation are quite simple and efficient; and the number of public/secret parameters for each authenticated user is small. In our scheme, it does not require any modular exponentiation for the user to derive other secret keys. Hence, it is very suitable for hardware-limited users such as mobile units or smart cards.
