Soft_ware glneerlng munity is increasingly identified as a critical constraint in the realization of all types of industrial and commercial systems.The findings of the last International Workshop on Computer-Aided Software Engineering (IWCASE), summarized here with a fair degree of editorial license, represent a cross section of opinions and perspectives from over 200 experts in software development technology from the academic, supplier and user communities.In effect, it constitutes one self-assessment of how well our profession is meeting the challenge of building a respectable engineering discipline, and the design automation tools required to support it.
