Block adaptation techniques are investigated by computer simulation for decision feedback equalization on a rapidly fading dispersive channel. Tradeoffs between training sequence length and block length are found. Block adaptation, supplemented by linear interpolation of coefficients, is found to be an attractive alternative to more complex continuously adapting recursive least squares adaptation algorithms.>
