The purpose of this paper is to survey software size estimating techniques and to provide some insight into the software sizing problem. The paper provides an introduction to the key issues relating to software sizing and discusses the importance of software sizing. Problem areas, technology, and factors which influence the size of software are examined. The paper concludes with a proposed methodology for software sizing.
