Performance analysis of time-frequency coded spread spectrum systems (TFCSS) and multi-level frequency shift keyed frequency hopped (MFSK/FH) multiple access systems

M.R. Movahedi, L.F. Turner · 1989

During the late seventies, as a result of the increased interest in applying new techniques to mobile radio systems, two different spread spectrum multiple-access systems were proposed, which apparently rivaled contemporary FDM/TDM techniques in performance. The first, more conventional system, was proposed by Cooper and Nettledon (1978), and used binary differential phase shift keying and Hadamard coding. The second system was proposed by Goodman et al. (1980), and used multi-level FSK (MFSK) with repetition coding. An analysis procedure is presented which allows the performance of both types of system to be evaluated, without considering specific implementation details. This allows a fair comparison to be made between these systems, and conventional time/frequency division techniques.
