Concept-based query in visual information systems

Chaabane Djéraba, M. Bouet, H. Briand · 2002

Presents a query-by-content system in an image database system. The querying is based both on the visual content, such as color, texture, location and shape, and on textual descriptions of images. Moreover, we propose a concept-based query approach that enables the user to express his queries with more meaning. The concept-based querying provides an interesting technique for users to incorporate domain knowledge into their queries. This incorporation overcomes the problem of incomplete knowledge in most knowledge-based systems. The domain knowledge may be stored in the database with no special effort from the designer, and the user may reuse his own concepts in later queries.
