The design and realization of cellular neural networks is discussed. An extension to the development environment NNSIM (neural network simulator) supports the creation of cellular networks. Furthermore the IC/sup 3/ ASIC cell library is introduced, allowing fast turn-around mixed hardware/software prototyping to detail real-time effects. A typical ASIC contains 150 neurons and 750 synapses.>
