Appendix C: Quantum Interference Devices
Jasprit Singh · 1999
In quantum mechanics we see that classical particles behave as waves. Is it possible for these particle-waves to display phenomena t h a t "normal waves" such as light waves display? For example, can particle waves interfere and diffract?T h e answer is yes and in Chapter 4, Section 4.4.8we briefly discussed how particle waves can be used for determining crystal structures. In this appendix we will address the following two questions: i) under what conditions can electrons in solids display interference behavior?ii) How can we exploit particle wave interference to design information-processing devices?
