The use of Cholinesterase Techniques for the Demonstration of Peripheral Nervous Structures

REX E. COUPLAND, Robert L. Holmes · Journal of Cell Science · 1957

ABSTRACT An account is given of a modification of the method of Koelle and Friedenwald for the demonstration of cholinesterase activity. When this method is employed, diffusion artifacts are minimal, and good histological pictures of central and peripheral nervous structures can be obtained. Certain advantages of this method over metallic impregnation and methylene blue techniques for demonstration of nervous elements are discussed, and its application to a variety of tissues described.
