Differential local edge detection using the DH operator

Kenneth M. Dawson‐Howe · International journal of tomography and simulation · 2012

A new differential local edge detector is presented that computes an edge image which is twice the original image size, allowing edges to be detected between as well as on pixels. This detector is compared with Canny and a more recent detector by Bao et al. and, based on the quantitative and qualitative test results, would appear to give better overall performance (based on the figure of merit scores), higher accuracy in terms of edge location, and less stepping effects (although Canny does give thinner edges). The new detector is similar to compass edge detectors and hence facilitates efficient computation.
