Using Native Code

M. J. Easton, Jason King · Apress eBooks · 2004

While the brunt of this book describes how .NET can be used to develop software that runs on a variety of platforms, this chapter is something of a black sheep in that it investigates the converse issue of how .NET can be used to access platform-specific, native code. Although this chapter might grate against the honed sensibilities of this book’s more puritanical readership, the ability to call native code is an essential feature that allows .NET applications to take advantage of underlying platform features, in exactly the same way that the Java Native Interface affords Java developers the ability to call native code. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
