Group Purchasing of Online Korean Databases

The term of the license agreements was five years, from January 2004 through December 2008.On signing, each participating library assumed individual responsibility for paying each vendor annually; for reporting any technical problems; and for communicating directly with individual vendors concerning other problems. The second group purchase (2005)The second group purchase for five databases followed the same procedures as the first group purchase.Individual participating libraries signed a five-year contract, which began in July 2005 and will run through June 2010.Among the databases purchased (see the complete list below), two databases, KPjournal and Zininzin pulgul pogosǒ deit'ǒ beisǔ 진인진발굴보고서데이터베이스, had never been purchased by any North American institutions. In the case of KPjournal, this was possibly because even though the database is dedicated to Korean studies, it does not include North Korean academic journals in the humanities and social sciences, and would therefore probably be of use to only a handful of North American graduate students and scholars in the field of Korean archaeology.
