We prove the existence of weak solutions for the initial-boundary value problem of the quasilinear parabolic equation \frac{∂u}{∂t} + \mathrm{A}(u) + g(x,\:t,\:u,\:\mathrm{D}u) = f. Here \mathrm{A} is a Leray–Lions type operator from \mathscr V=\mathrm L^p(o,T,W^{1,p}_0(\Omega)) to its dual space \mathscr V^* , g is a nonlinear term with critical growth with respect to \mathrm{D}u satisfying a sign condition and no growth condition with respect to u ; f is a given element in \mathscr V^* .
