Working with Authentication, Users, and Passwords

David P. Sklar · Apress eBooks · 2004

Authentication provides a way to track user behavior on your Web site. Once a user logs in, you can attach their name to a particular message in a forum or other uploaded content. Plus, authentication is a way to restrict access to parts of your site. Making users log in with a username and password prevents random surfers from stumbling upon sensitive data. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
