A hybrid automaton model of the motor control system

Munther A. Dahleh, Steve G Massaquoi · 2004

Summary form only given. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive model of the motor control system which consists of three major components: the motor cortex which is responsible for strategic decisions, i.e., constructing the precise trajectory to be followed, the basal ganglia which is responsible for exciting the correct neuronal assemblies, and finally, the cerebellum which is responsible for tactical decisions. It is shown how a robust-hybrid automaton constructed from learned primitives can provide a comprehensive model of the motor control system. In the paper, we discuss how this model explains interesting biological behaviors.
