Capture effect of PRMA with adaptive array

For radio packet communications, the packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) protocol has been proposed in which only talkspurt is packetized and transmitted for efficient use of the channel. Considering the capture effect, although the total throughput can be improved, the near-far effect occurs. In this paper, we consider the capture effect of PRMA with adaptive array. In the proposed model, the capture effect is applied under the condition in which a packet cannot be captured by using the adaptive array. In addition, in the proposed model, more transmission chances are given to farther terminals to cope with the near-far effect. We evaluate the throughput and the packet dropping probability by computer simulations. It is shown that the proposed model attains fair performance among the terminals without reducing the total performance.
