Can an ideal quantum "controlled-NOT" gate maintain coherence?

Summary form only given. A "controlled-NOT" (CNOT) gate is an elementary building block for an ideal quantum computer. The key advantage of a quantum computer lies in its capability to operate coherently when the quantum bits are in a superposition state of the basis states. In this paper, we closely analyze the operation of an ideal quantum "controlled-NOT" logic gate.
