Efforts have been undertaken at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) to develop a high-performance network computing system that will serve as a platform for research into simulation and control of the integral fast reactor (IFR). Effort has been specifically directed to installation and evaluation of an innovative message-passing software package known as the P4 system. It allows a network of Sun workstations to achieve parallel processing for computationally intensive simulation/control software that has heretofore required a large mainframe. Future applications will include safety design, operations analysis, and operator training.
