Elementary structures as a basis for effort estimation in information system development projects

Geoffrey Kennedy, G.C. Hay · 2002

A major problem facing information system developers is the need to be able to estimate total effort required as early in the development cycle as possible. The paper explores the counts of elementary structures contained in the entity relationship diagram as a basis for effort estimation. The number of lines of code produced in thirty three system development projects is examined and related to the elementary structures of the corresponding entity relationship diagram in order to arrive at an empirical estimation model.
