World‐Views of Simulation

Raid Al‐Aomar, Edward J. Williams, Onur M. Ülgen · 2015

This chapter provides a deeper understanding of the discrete event simulation (DES) process, components, and mechanisms. It defines the DES concept and implications and presents the effective mechanics of the DES approach. These mechanics include events activation, random number generation, and time advancement. In addition to the powerful DES mechanics, the chapter highlights the characteristics of simulation software tools as a flexible modeling platform that utilizes today's high-speed processors for running fast computations and developing super graphics and animations. An example of manual simulation is used to clarify the DES functionality.
